On May 9, 2020, a nationwide blackout left many Kenyans in the dark. But for Ruth Gituma, heroes emerged in the form of young Kenya Power technicians and a helicopter pilot who risked their lives to restore power in western Kenya.

According to Ruth, the technicians and pilot worked tirelessly to repair the fault on the national grid, hanging precariously from helicopters and perching on elevated pylons to restore power by midday. She praised their selfless efforts, saying, “The job is not only risky but also demanding of the skills of these selfless people, whom we saw hanging dangerously from the helicopter and perching on the elevated pylons to repair and restore power.”

Meanwhile, Mwangi Karuga, who recently returned from medical treatment in India, has a message for his fellow Kenyans: always seek a second opinion. He shared his own experience of being recommended for surgery to remove his urinary bladder, but after seeking a second opinion, he was diagnosed with a treatable infection and avoided surgery.

Elsewhere, Anil Vidyarthi expressed frustration with the shoddy road repairs in Nairobi, which he believes are not designed to last. He pointed out that sections of roads damaged during heavy rains are often patched up, but only to be washed away again during the next downpour.

Finally, Sauthi Mbunza observed that the Jubilee Party is undergoing a purge, with several high-ranking officials, including Kipchumba Murkomen and Susan Kihika, being removed from their positions. He believes this is an indication that the party's rivals are determined to settle their differences.
