Elizabeth Irungu Identifies 10 Types of Kenyan Miraa Chewers

Published on May 24, 2020

Former TV presenter Elizabeth Irungu has shared her experiences with miraa chewing, identifying 10 types of Kenyan miraa chewers she has met.

According to Irungu, who has been enjoying miraa for over 10 years, not everyone who chews miraa exhibits the same behavior.

Here are the 10 types of miraa chewers Irungu has identified:

  • The 'tafuta-tafuta type' who is always looking for things and can't even understand what someone is looking for.
  • The 'hallucinating chap' who talks about business ideas the moment his hands are shaking.
  • The 'horny freak' who only talks about sex and gives dirty stories all night.
  • The 'chiriku' who is overly talkative and can talk non-stop from 5 pm to 5 am.
  • The 'cry-cry baby' who shares all his life's problems, including financial hurdles and love break-ups.
  • The 'noise maker' who yells at his friends who are 1 kilometer away, telling them nothing but just making noise.
  • The 'internet craze' who is always browsing and listening to others while nodding.
  • The 'kiguu na njia' who can't even decide on a plan, suggesting going to the beach, Caltex, or a party.
  • The 'nitumeni' who loves to be carried and can't even decide on a plan, always asking to be taken somewhere.
  • And finally, the 'Miss podox' who is always checking herself in the mirror, applying lipstick, lip gloss, and powder every 5 minutes.

Irungu advises her followers to avoid the 'tafuta-tafuta type', the 'cry-cry baby', and the 'noise maker' if they want to maintain peace and avoid depression.
