Kenya's government has launched targeted Covid-19 testing in high-risk areas, including Nairobi and Mombasa, to identify and treat those infected with the virus.

However, the effort has been hindered by individuals providing false information during testing, including incorrect contact details.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman warned that this practice is 'serious' and can have 'disastrous' consequences, particularly when individuals test positive and cannot be traced.

Dr. Aman urged Kenyans to participate in mass testing, assuring that the government will cover treatment and quarantine costs for those who test positive and their contacts.

He emphasized that the targeted testing is aimed at protecting the public and preventing the spread of the disease.

Dr. Aman also thanked residents of Eastleigh and Old Town estates for their calm and understanding during the month of Ramadhan, and assured that the partial lockdown measures will be reviewed if Kenyans adhere to containment measures.

On a separate note, Dr. Aman congratulated Dr. Patrick Amoth on his election as Vice President of the World Health Organization Executive Board, describing it as a 'major accomplishment' for Kenya.
