Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman announced the new cases, which were among 1,108 samples taken for testing within a 24-hour period.

Of the new cases, 17 were male and 5 were female, with the youngest being 24 years old and the oldest 73 years old, according to Aman.

The new cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording 10 cases and Mombasa recording 9 cases.

Within Nairobi, the cases were spread across Mathare (2), Kibera (2), Makadara, Embakasi West, Eastleigh, Ruaraka, Langata, and Westlands.

In Mombasa, Mvita recorded 5 cases, while Changamwe, Jomvu, Likoni, and Nyali recorded 1 case each.

The remaining three cases were reported in Kwale, Nakuru, and Taita Taveta counties, with the patients traced to Lunga Lunga, Nakuru West, and Taveta quarantine facility respectively.

However, three patients had recovered from the virus, raising the number of recoveries to 383, Aman said.

Coronavirus fatalities rose to 51 after a 48-year-old male patient from Mathare succumbed to the virus.

Kenya has so far tested a total of 59,260 samples, with the Ministry of Health reiterating its commitment to meet the cost of treatment and quarantine for those who test positive.

Aman also urged Kenyans to turn up for testing, noting that most Kenyans were adhering to the issued guidelines.
