Kenya has recorded its 51st COVID-19 related death, a 48-year-old man from Nairobi's Mathare who succumbed to the highly contagious virus.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman announced the death on Sunday, May 24, 2020, during a status update on efforts to contain the virus.

"On a sad note, I report we have lost one male patient aged 48 years old from Mathare raising death toll to 51. Our hearts go out to the family and friends during this time," he said.

Kenya has also confirmed two more COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with 22 out of 1,108 samples analyzed from various parts of the country testing positive for the virus.

Of the newly detected cases, 17 were male patients, with the reported age group ranging from 24 to 73 years old.

The cases are distributed across Nairobi (10), Mombasa (9), with Mathare, Kibra, and Mvita recording the highest number of infections.

Health officials have raised concern over individuals providing wrong contacts and telephone numbers during testing, making it difficult to trace those who have tested positive.
