May 23, 2020 - Bayern Munich's Thomas Mueller is anticipating a highly charged atmosphere in their upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund, despite the absence of spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bayern Munich is currently leading the German league table, with Dortmund in second place, four points behind. The two teams are set to face off in a crucial match that could determine the title winner.
Thomas Mueller, who scored in Bayern's 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, expressed his expectations for the match, saying, 'We don't really know how to get into these games without spectators, but I expect us, and myself, to go to our limits anyway.'
Bayern Munich is chasing its eighth consecutive German league title, and a win in Dortmund could leave them seven points clear with six games left. The team has been boosted by the signing of Norwegian goal-ace Erling Braut Haaland, who has scored ten goals in as many league games.
Bayern's star striker Robert Lewandowski will also be looking to add to his phenomenal tally of 27 goals in 23 league games against his former club. Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park would usually be sold out, but the terraces will remain empty due to the strict hygiene measures in place during the pandemic.
Bayern head coach Hansi Flick described the upcoming match as a 'top-match,' saying, 'When the top team plays against the second one, well if it's not a top-match then I don't know what is.'
