On May 24, 2020, a heated dispute erupted at the 1,200-acre Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) land in Komarock, Machakos county, when government surveyors were attacked by goons while conducting survey works.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama intervened, asking the surveyors to produce a legal document to prove authorization of the subdivision, citing an ongoing court case.

However, police later intervened, asking Muthama to allow the subdivision process to continue, but the exercise was abandoned due to the unruly behavior of the goons.

Earlier, some individuals, including families who claimed their houses were demolished in Ruai to make way for the Dandora Sewerage Plant expansion, had sought to claim ownership of the land.

Those evicted from Ruai and Mathare 4A in Nairobi have since invaded the disputed property and vowed to construct new homes on it, claiming they had government approval to settle there.
