On Friday, a boda boda rider in Meru was assaulted by a police officer who refused to pay the agreed fare.
Domisiano Gitonga had charged police constable Lewis Kobia Sh600 for a two-hour journey from Ndungune market to Machaku then Muramba markets and finally to the Tigania police station.
However, Kobia only gave Gitonga Sh200 and told him off when asked for the balance.
When Gitonga requested payment of the remaining Sh400, Kobia allegedly started beating him with blows and kicks inside the station compound, leaving him with visible injuries on the forehead.
Gitonga was later referred to hospital for treatment due to chest pain and the officer was placed in custody, awaiting arraignment before Tigania law court on Tuesday.
The officer will be charged with assault.
