On May 19-22, a total of 996 players and staff from Premier League clubs across England underwent coronavirus testing. The results of these tests have now been confirmed, revealing two additional positive cases.
These two new cases bring the total number of positive tests to eight, following the first round of testing on May 17-18, which covered 748 individuals and resulted in six positive cases.
Players or staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days, as per the Premier League's guidelines.
According to a Premier League statement, the second round of testing saw an increase in the number of tests available to each club, from 40 to 50.
The Premier League has stated that it will not provide specific details about the clubs or individuals involved, and results will be made public after each round of testing.
The English Premier League was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, but is planned to restart behind closed doors from June 1, as per the UK government's guidelines.
