As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the world, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is exploring options to restart the 2019-20 season. According to a statement from league spokesman Mike Bass, the NBA is engaged in exploratory conversations with The Walt Disney Company about restarting the season in late July at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.
On March 11, the NBA suspended its season indefinitely in response to the pandemic. The league is now working with public health experts and government officials to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all involved.
There are still several issues to resolve before the season can restart, including whether to play the rest of the regular season or go straight into the playoffs. The NBA has a board of governors virtual meeting scheduled for next Friday, which is expected to provide additional details on plans to proceed with the restart.
