As the country marks 49 days under tough COVID-19 restrictions, President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted at relaxing the curfew and cessation of movement in several counties.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Sh54 billion economic recovery plan, the President emphasized that the curfew and lockdown cannot continue indefinitely.
“I have told health officials and my ministers that they should start telling Kenyans that we cannot be under a curfew or lockdown forever,” the President said, addressing the nation from State House, Nairobi on May 23, 2020.
The President noted that many countries are grappling with how to reopen their economies, which have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed over 300,000 lives worldwide.
He emphasized the need for Kenyans to strictly follow the measures and protocols announced by the government to help fight the disease, which has infected over 1,190 Kenyans and claimed 50 lives.
