On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled a Sh53.7 billion stimulus package at State House, Nairobi, aimed at helping Kenyans and businesses weather the economic storm caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The package, which is in line with global efforts to combat the economic downturn, will see the government allocate Sh6.5 billion to the Ministry of Education for the hiring of 10,000 more teachers and 1,000 ICT interns to support the digital learning programme.
The President also announced that the government will purchase locally manufactured vehicles worth Sh600 million to promote local car assembly firms.
Kenya is following countries around the world in pledging stimulus packages as the global economy teeters on the brink of recession.
