Five Killed in Freak Londiani Road Accident

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, a devastating road crash occurred along the Nakuru-Kericho highway, claiming the lives of five people and leaving twelve others seriously injured.

The accident happened at 11:30 am when a Mitsubishi trailer, driven from Nakuru to Kericho, lost control due to brake failure and rammed into six oncoming vehicles, including five matatus and a private car that had been flagged down for Covid-19 screening and routine motor vehicle check near Londiani road junction.

According to Londiani OCPD Musa Kongoni, the driver of the trailer hit an electric pole before landing on the right-side ditch. Three male adults died on the spot, while two female adults died on arrival at the hospital, with one dying at Londiani sub-county hospital and the other while being rushed to Kericho County hospital.

Twelve survivors of the accident were seriously injured and rushed to Londiani sub-county hospital, where they received treatment. Among the lucky survivors was the badly injured lorry driver, who was being transferred to Kericho County hospital.

"A Mitsubishi trailer which was being driven from Nakuru heading towards Kericho side and on reaching the scene of the accident, it’s driver lost control due to brake failure and rammed into six oncoming vehicles. He hit an electric pole before landing on the right-side ditch," said Londiani OCPD Musa Kongoni.

The road was secured, and all wreckages of the vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Londiani police station awaiting inspection, as stated by Mr. Kongoni.
