May 13 marked the release of Sanaipei Tande's new song, Mdaka Mdakiwa, a fusion of afrobeat and coastal melodic sounds that pay homage to her coastal upbringing.
The song, which has already garnered over 200,000 views on YouTube, explores the changing societal norms and the shifting roles of courtship, where women can now pursue men for relationships.
"Nimeshayasikia mwanamke kamilika ni yule aliye olewa na kuanza familia, ninaye nimpendaye ameshindwa na kunena …….. Nami silai kwa kuwa wadai, mwanamke hafai kujaribu anapopata kigae chake…….. Nataka nimkaribie nimwabie vile anavyotia moyo wangu joto ……… Lakini sitaki kumuaibisha," she says in some of the lyrics.
Sanaipei Tande, popularly known as Sana, has a string of hits under her belt, including Amina, Mfalme wa Mapenzi, and Najuta. She has also collaborated with notable artists such as Otile Brown and Jua Cali.
