On May 23, 2020, a devastating plane crash occurred in Karachi, Pakistan, claiming the lives of 97 people and leaving only two survivors.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, which was traveling from Lahore to Karachi, lost contact with air traffic control just after 2:30 pm local time.

As the plane made multiple approaches to land at the city's airport, it came down in a residential area, causing significant damage to buildings and sparking a massive rescue operation that lasted into the night.

According to the Sindh Health Ministry, all passengers and crew had been accounted for, and the bodies of those killed had been recovered from the crash site, with 19 having been identified.

Local hospitals received the bodies of people killed on the ground, and the site remained cordoned off on Saturday morning.

Rescue workers and residents searched the debris for people, while firefighters tried to extinguish the flames, sending plumes of smoke into the air.

A reporter witnessed charred bodies being loaded into ambulances, highlighting the tragic scale of the disaster.
