On May 23, 2020, Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kangata spoke about the role of parties in Kenya's politics. He stated that for a party to be effective, its members must be whipped into line to follow the party's position.
According to Kangata, a party's position is not to be taken lightly, and members must be willing to follow it without question. He cited the example of Kindiki, who was given a position by a party without any explanation, and was subsequently entitled to withdraw from it.
