On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation, unveiling an eight-point Economic Stimulus Program aimed at stimulating growth in key sectors.
The program focuses on infrastructure, agriculture, health, SMEs, manufacturing, and tourism, among others.
As part of the stimulus package, the government will inject Ksh 53.7 billion into the economy, with a significant portion allocated to the education ministry to hire 10,000 teachers and 1,000 ICT interns to support digital learning.
The education ministry will receive Ksh 6.5 billion, while the agricultural sector will get Ksh 3 billion for the supply of farm inputs through e-vouchers, targeting 200,000 small-scale farmers.
Additionally, Ksh 1.5 billion will be set aside to assist flower and horticultural producers to access international markets, and Ksh 10 billion will be used to clear pending bills targeting SMEs.
Infrastructure will receive Ksh 5 billion to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure due to floods, and the Kenya Wildlife Service will get Ksh 1 billion to engage 5,500 community scouts to support approximately 160 community conservancies.
Furthermore, the government will dispatch Ksh 250 million every week to less fortunate families in the country.
