Former Kenya Rugby Sevens Player Allan Makaka Dies in Road Accident

Kenyan rugby fans are mourning the loss of Allan Makaka, a former Kenya Sevens international who died in a car crash on May 22, 2020.

Makaka, 38, was driving along Mombasa road when his car collided with a trailer. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Kenya Sevens team, Shujaa, expressed their condolences on Twitter, saying:

"We are deeply saddened by the death of former #Kenya7s International player Allan Makaka who passed away today in a tragic road accident. Our most sincere condolences goes out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Champ."

Makaka was born on June 28, 1982, and had a storied career in rugby. He made 57 appearances on the Sevens World Series, scoring 28 tries and ranking 21st overall amongst Kenya’s all-time try scorers.

He was part of the Kenya squad that played at the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
