Kenya has secured a significant financial boost in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, with the African Development Bank approving a €188 million loan to support the country's efforts in responding to the pandemic and mitigating its economic, health, and social impacts.
According to the bank, the loan follows a request by the Government of Kenya as part of its COVID-19 Emergency Response intervention to help contain the scourge. The funds will be used to strengthen the national health system, build economic resilience, and ensure a quick recovery of the economy.
The loan will also support the poor and vulnerable people who have been negatively affected by the pandemic. The bank's Acting Director-General for East Africa, Nnenna Nwabufo, noted,
