On May 22, 2020, Bayern Munich's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that the club would not be activating a 120-million-euro option to buy on-loan Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
The option, which expired, was not exercised by the German champions, according to Rummenigge.
"We haven't activated it," he said.
Bayern Munich had signed Coutinho on a loan deal last August, but he failed to shine consistently, featuring in 23 of 25 league games before the season was halted in March due to the coronavirus.
Although he has eight goals and six assists to his name, Coutinho started just 15 times and sat out last weekend's resumption of the season after undergoing ankle surgery in April.
Chairman Rummenigge also hinted at a tightening of belts in the transfer market once the crisis had passed, stating that paying a club record fee for a player would not be an option.
