Kenyan Dr. Patrick Amoth Elected Vice President of WHO Executive Board

On May 23, 2020, Dr. Patrick Amoth, a medical doctor and obstetrician-gynecologist, was elected Vice President of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a 2-year term.

Dr. Amoth, who holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) degree in Obstetrics/Gynaecology from the University of Nairobi, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has previously served as Chief Medical Specialist (Obstetrics/Gynecology) at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi, as well as at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital and Kiambu District Hospital.

Meanwhile, Sanda Ojiambo, Safaricom's Head of Sustainable Business and Social Impact, has been appointed as the Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The announcement was made by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

UNGC is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, and Sanda will assume the role from June 17th, taking over from Denmark's Lise Kingo who has been with the UN Global Compact since 2015.
