On May 23, 2020, Kaizer Chiefs announced that Colombian striker Leonardo Castro had signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 30, 2022.

Castro joined Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2018 and has since become a key player for the team, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.

“Thank you so much. I am very happy with the Chairman Kaizer Motaung and Club. I am also grateful to continue to wear the Gold & Black,” Castro expressed his gratitude to the club.

With the new contract, Castro has expressed his desire to win a trophy with the team, stating, “This is sensitive for me because I have not won a trophy yet with the team. And to leave without a gold medal would be a defeat for me.”

Castro's commitment to the club has been welcomed by his family, who are excited about the prospect of remaining in South Africa.
