With the Covid-19 pandemic slowly receding, the world of golf is set for a significant change. As of November 1, 2020, the traditional Golf Handicap system will become invalid, and golfers in Kenya and beyond will need to adapt to the new World Handicapping System (WHS).

According to the WHS, golfers will require a new handicap to compete with others globally. This poses a challenge for golf clubs in East Africa, with many still unprepared to issue new handicaps.

However, one golf club has taken the lead in preparing for this change. Sigona Golf Club, under the guidance of Chairman Engineer Ben Njoroge, has undergone the required Slope Rating process, making it the only compliant golf club in the country as of the end of 2019.

As golf clubs in East Africa scramble to meet the new WHS requirements, it remains to be seen whether they will be ready to issue new handicaps by the November 1 deadline.
