On May 22, 2020, Wiper Democratic Movement's National Executive Council (NEC) made a significant decision, endorsing Kalonzo Musyoka's move to form a coalition with Jubilee and KANU.
The NEC, the party's top decision-making organ, unanimously backed the immediate implementation of the Cooperation Agreement during a virtual meeting.
Party Chairman Chirau Ali Mwakwere and Secretary-General Judith Sijeny were mandated to sign the agreement once it is sealed.
The decision was made in the context of President Uhuru Kenyatta's efforts to consolidate his administration, with the formation of new alliances with parties.
As part of this effort, Jubilee has already signed a deal with KANU, and the ruling party has also warmed up to Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement, ODM.
Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika were replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio and Irungu Kangata of Murang'a respectively, following the new-found relationship with KANU.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka emphasized that the Cooperation Agreement does not breach the party's agreements under the NASA Coalition.
