As of May 22, 2020, Kenya had reported 1,161 COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that the Ministry of Health had trained over 11,000 health care workers to combat the pandemic.

"In collaboration with the County Governments, the ministry rolled out training of trainers' programmes and to date, at least 7 health care workers in every county have been trained," Kagwe said during a news conference in Machakos.

The Ministry of Health has assured health workers of their safety, providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to mitigate the risk of contracting the virus.

Health workers had raised concerns over their safety during the pandemic, with some threatening to down their tools if their concerns were not addressed by the government.
