On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitri celebrations, marking the end of Ramadan, Kenyan Defense Forces in Somalia have shown their commitment to supporting vulnerable families in areas under their military operation.
Under the African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM, the troops delivered food supplies to over 600 beneficiaries in Dhobley and Kismayo, including rice, sugar, spaghetti, tea leaves, biscuits, flour, cooking oil, and beans.
Deputy Commander for AMISOM's Sector II, Colonel Jackson Lesaiyo, emphasized the importance of supporting internally displaced persons and families whose crops were destroyed by heavy rains and flash floods.
Lesaiyo noted that many families are struggling to cope with the socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that similar donations have been made in several other areas and population centers.
As part of their support to the people of Somalia, the Kenyan troops in Jubaland have also conducted free medical camps for communities in Dhobley and Kismayo, and donated medical supplies to nearby community hospitals.
AMISOM hailed the donations as an indication of the peaceful coexistence between the soldiers and local communities.
