On May 22, 2020, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released its ambitious plan to grow women's football in Africa, with a focus on five key pillars.

According to CAF, its vision for the development of women's football in Africa is built around three main agendas: accelerating the growth of the women's game at all levels, providing increased and improved training opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth across all areas.

CAF has also outlined its objectives for the development pillar, which include engaging with schools to participate in regular competitions, facilitating certified coaching education for women, and organizing regular female refereeing education.

Establishing Continental Club Competitions

CAF has also acknowledged the inadequacy of competitions within women's football in Africa, with many calling for the establishment of continental club competitions to strengthen national team competitions.

As part of its five-point plan, CAF has listed competitions as one of its key pillars, with a focus on upgrading the standards of competitions.

CAF's objectives for competitions include enhancing the qualifying pathway for CAF Women's Competitions, working with member associations to increase the number of national leagues at youth and senior level, and working with zonal unions to increase the number of Women's Competitions for clubs and national teams at youth and senior levels.

To implement these objectives, CAF plans to review competition regulations to incentivize participation, introduce a new Continental Club Competition to strengthen domestic leagues and clubs, and organize the CAF Youth Championship to increase motivation among players, coaches, and member associations.
