On Thursday, May 14, 2020, three police officers from Kamukunji Police Station in Nairobi were charged with aiding a suspect's escape from custody at a Milimani Court.
The officers, Corporal Vacity Kimeres and Constables Stephen Auko and Elias Koome, were released on a Ksh. 200,000 bond with one surety of the same amount or an alternative of Ksh. 50,000 cash bail until June 4, 2020, when the case will be heard.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the three officers were on duty on May 13, 2020, when the kidnap suspect Martin Wasike, 27, disappeared from the cells.
Analysis of the CCTV footage revealed that the trio deliberately, unprocedurally, and unlawfully released the Ugandan national who had been charged at Milimani Law Courts alongside two others for kidnapping and handling suspected stolen property.
