On May 25th, 2020, Africa will come together in a virtual concert to raise funds for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, dubbed the Africa Day Benefit Concert, will be hosted by actor Idris Elba and streamed on MTV Base Africa's YouTube channel.
MTV Base Africa has partnered with YouTube to stage the virtual concert, which will feature a lineup of African heavyweights in music. Sauti Sol, representing East Africa, will be joined by other notable artists including Diamond Platnumz, Bebe Cool, and Nandy.
Idris Elba, who recently recovered from COVID-19, will share his journey to recovery during the concert. He expressed his desire to shine a light on the African continent through the mega gig, saying, "Taking a moment to shine a light on African arts to benefit the African homeland and its people. A continent of this size should find a way to dig deep and stand up for one another at a time like this. It’s important for the future and history will not forget."
The concert will also feature performances by Sho Madjozi, AKA, Nasty C, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Teni, Angelique Kidjo, StoneBwoy, Fally Ipupa, and many more.
