Donn J, a 23-year-old rapper from Kwale, has come a long way since leaving his hometown four years ago to pursue education and a career in music. In this exclusive interview, he shares his journey, from growing up in Kwale to working with renowned artist Khaligraph Jones.

Donn J's love for music was influenced by local artistes such as Sokoro, Daddi Q, and Top-G, who were considered home-grown superstars in Kwale. He credits them with inspiring his desire to pursue music at a young age.

After graduating with a degree in Human Resources from the University of Nairobi, Donn J's knowledge of networking and team management has helped him become a better artiste. He has gained insight on how to form effective teams and communicate effectively, earning him the title of a 'people person'.

Donn J's big break came when he met Khaligraph Jones, who gave him a head start in his career. He describes Jones as a mentor and brother, who made him feel at ease in the studio. Being part of the Khali Kartel track was a dream come true for Donn J, and he credits Jones with believing in him.

Donn J has also worked with producer Tim Rimbui, who has been a guiding light in his career. He has learned the ropes of the music industry from Rimbui and continues to be a source of inspiration. Donn J is now mentoring a young rapper from Mtwapa, Tricks, who he discovered through the 'Yes Bana' challenge.

Donn J's next collaboration is with Naiboi, one of the hottest artistes in Kenya right now. He believes that their different styles will create music that will cause ripples in the entertainment industry.
