Siaya County has become an epicenter of the Corona Virus in the Western Kenya Region, with over 7 cases reported and expected to rise due to exposure to the virus.

According to reports, a woman's body was transported from Nairobi to Siaya County for burial after a clearance from a Chief in Kibra, Nairobi County.

The 12 mourners who accompanied the body from Nairobi were not allowed to mingle with the locals, but some escaped from quarantine and are yet to be traced.

On May 22, 2020, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Mutahi Kagwe, expressed concern over how a Chief could authorize the movement of people from Nairobi to the rural area without authorization from Public Health Officials.

Local Health Officials claimed that the body was handled properly, with guidelines from the County health officials who disinfected it before burial.

However, the burial of the body in a record 10 minutes, attended by the 12 mourners, has raised concerns over the spread of the virus.
