Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru has been hospitalized in ICU after testing positive for COVID-19, following a party she hosted at her Runda home that saw 18 guests, including 8 who also tested positive.
According to reports, Bishop Wanjiru disregarded government orders to ban social gatherings, which were put in place in March to curb the spread of COVID-19.
On May 21, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced 80 new cases, including 5 people who traveled from Kibera to Siaya for a funeral and tested positive for the virus.
"The Siaya story is a sad one because the departure point of that case is actually in Kibera, somebody in Kibera without the authority to authorize anybody to travel signed a document that allowed and was respected by police all the way from Kibera taking mourners for a funeral in Siaya," Kagwe said.
Kenya has recorded over 1100 COVID-19 cases, and the government is urging citizens to adhere to the guidelines to flatten the curve.
