As of May 21, 2020, the Kenyan government has revised its coronavirus peak prediction, shifting it from April to August and September.

According to Health Director-General Patrick Amoth, the country could register more than 200 cases of coronavirus per day during the said months.

Initially, the government had predicted the month of April as the turning point for Kenya, estimating 10,000 confirmed cases by the end of that month.

However, due to the measures put in place, such as closing schools, imposing curfews, and restricting movement in Mombasa and Nairobi, the infection curve has not risen rapidly.

Dr. Amoth attributed the smoother curve to the adherence by Kenyans to the prevention measures issued by the government.

He explained that the infection projection modelling keeps on changing based on the variables at play, and the numbers reported recently have been increasing because the Ministry of Health has been able to ramp up its testing capacity.

As of May 21, 2020, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country stands at 1109, with 80 more people testing positive on Thursday.
