On May 21, 2020, Kenya's health officials projected the peak of COVID-19 cases in August or September, with up to 200 cases expected daily.

According to Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director General of Health at the Ministry of Health, the country's health systems will likely be able to cope with the peak if Kenyans continue to implement hygiene measures.

At a press conference, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 80 new infections, raising the total to 1,109.

Dr. Amoth emphasized the importance of hand washing, physical distancing, and avoiding gatherings in managing the spread of the virus.

He also cited Kenya's weak health system and high burden of communicable diseases as obstacles that could impede the fight to contain the spread of coronavirus.
