Published on May 21, 2020, the promise of a financially accessible 2022 World Cup in Qatar has been made by the head of the organizing committee, Hassan Al-Thawadi.

Speaking on the potential impact of a global recession caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Al-Thawadi expressed concerns that supporters might struggle to afford the trip to Qatar.

"We have always said, from day one, that it will be an accessible competition. We want everyone who wants to be able to come to the World Cup," Al-Thawadi said.

He pointed to the 2019 Club World Cup as an example of the committee's ability to make the event accessible to supporters, citing affordable flights and accommodation.

However, Al-Thawadi acknowledged that the current economic uncertainty makes it difficult to predict the recovery and its impact on supporters' ability to pay for the trip.
