May 20, 2020, marked a milestone for Tracy Schofield, a Canadian woman from Cambridge, Ontario, who had contracted the coronavirus in March. Despite testing positive for the eighth time, she remains uncertain about her future.
According to World Health Organization guidelines, a patient must test negative twice consecutively before being declared 'recovered.' However, Schofield's case has raised questions about the effectiveness of these guidelines.
Tracy Schofield first experienced symptoms on March 30, including a fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. She was tested the next day and found to be positive for Covid-19.
After more than 50 days since testing positive, Schofield reported that most of her symptoms had subsided. However, she still suffers from shortness of breath and fears that Covid-19 may cause long-term problems.
CTV News reported that Schofield spent two weeks self-isolating at home, with only her 17-year-old son there to help. She described her experience as 'taking a lot out of me, and it continues every day.'
