Published on May 21, 2020, Laika's tweet about her 'broke' days has sparked a heated debate on social media.

According to Laika, she was forced to eat SH200 worth of nyama choma every day because she couldn't afford gas money.

However, many Kenyans felt that her tweet came across as insensitive, given that many people are struggling to make ends meet with far less.

Laika wrote, 'Kuna time nilikuwa so broke nilikuwa nanunua tu nyama choma ya soo mbili daily nakula plain ju sikuwa na pesa ya gas.'

Reactions from Kenyans on social media were swift and scathing, with many accusing Laika of bragging about her poverty.

'The word 'broke' has levels too,' wrote Pachenkol. 'Kuna broke ya mandazi chafua ya kumi, broke ya kwa mathe daily na sasa kuna hii ya nyam chom ya soo mbili daily.'

Others, like Lemmy Magunga, were more blunt, saying, 'Unakula nyama choma ya soo and u call that being broke.'
