Published on May 21, 2020, the recall of the 2017 General Election data by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has exposed its incompetence, sparking calls for its reorganisation before the 2022 General Election.
IEBC's recent upload of the data on its website was riddled with typographical and factual errors, further eroding its credibility. The organisation's chairman, Wafula Chebukati, and his two commissioners have been left to pick up the pieces after the resignation of their colleagues.
IEBC has blamed massive data for its shambolic showing, promising to correct and re-upload the document. However, this has only dented the integrity of the 2017 elections, with leaders calling for the IEBC's total overhaul and reorganisation.
Reports, including court rulings, have exposed IEBC as an incompetent outfit that the country can no longer rely on to midwife the process through which Kenyans elect their leaders.
