As the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) remains uncertain about the fate of the current season, Nzoia Sugar chairman Evans Kadenge has sought to reassure fans that the team remains intact. In an interview with Nation Sport on Wednesday, Kadenge stated that the board of the Nzoia Sugar Company, the club's sponsors, will soon meet to name a new coach to replace Collins 'Korea' Omondi, who was sacked in March.
Omondi's departure followed a string of poor results, including a 3-2 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz after Nzoia Sugar had led 2-0 at halftime. Kadenge attributed the delay in appointing a new coach to the coronavirus pandemic, which has hindered the board's ability to meet and address the issue.
"We have not dissolved or disbanded the team," Kadenge emphasized. "Our players are staying safe at home as we wait for the fate of the league to be decided by the relevant bodies."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the team, Kadenge expressed confidence that a qualified coach will be appointed soon, ensuring the team's success in the next season.
As the league's fate hangs in the balance, Nzoia Sugar will have narrowly survived relegation if the current table standings or half-season table are used to determine the season's outcome.
