Published on May 20, 2020, the British government was urged by the head of Motorsport UK to spare Formula One from quarantine laws that threaten plans to stage a British Grand Prix this year.

David Richards, chairman of Motorsport UK, expressed his concerns that the 14-day quarantine restrictions could make it impossible for Formula One to host two races behind closed doors at the Silverstone circuit on July 26 and August 2.

Richards emphasized the significant economic impact of Formula One on the UK, stating that it brings great prestige around the world and generates huge TV audiences.

He added that with the right precautions, it should be possible to find a sensible way to protect the community locally and handle the situation professionally for the teams.

A Formula One spokesperson also expressed concerns, stating that a 14-day quarantine would make it impossible to have a British Grand Prix this year, and that exemptions must be provided for elite sport to return to TV.
