On May 20, 2020, a man who had traveled from Tanzania through the Isebania Border was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19.
According to reports, the individual boarded a matatu to Kisii town, where he booked a hotel and spent three days before sneaking back to his home area in Nyamache, Kisii County, at dawn.
Local villagers discovered his presence and alerted the police, who subsequently arrested him.
Following tests, it was confirmed that the man was positive for Covid-19.
As a precautionary measure, his relatives and the police officers who arrested him have been placed under mandatory quarantine for 14 days.
The exact circumstances of how the man managed to sneak into the country, which has stringent security measures in place at its borders, remain unclear.
