As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, education institutions in Kenya have been forced to adapt to a new reality. With over 15 million students sent home, families across the country have felt the severe short-term disruption.
However, the crisis has also presented an opportunity for education institutions to improve and maximize their ICT capabilities. Huawei ICT Academy Kenya has collaborated with its partners for higher learning under the Learn ON program to help transition from face-to-face learning to online learning.
One such webinar was held to discuss how learning institutions can join the program. The Learn ON program aims to create contactless online education systems for educators and students, providing high-quality resources on an open platform together with financial support to ensure education continuity.
Under the program, Huawei has provided a $5 million ICT Academy Development Incentive Fund (ADIF), over 100 online Train the Trainer (TTT) sessions, and training for over 1,500 teachers. Additionally, 50,000 students are expected to be trained through online self-learning, courses, and classes.
Ann Therese Ndong-Jatta, Director of UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, commended Huawei's efforts, saying,
