Kenya's civil wedding scene has been dealt a significant blow as the Attorney General's office has temporarily suspended all marriage services in the country. The move comes after an overwhelming number of clients visited Sheria House, the venue for civil weddings, without observing proper health guidelines as stipulated by the Health Ministry.

According to a statement by Registrar General Mary Njuya, the office has halted all marriage services to develop a clear roadmap for reopening and ensure safety measures are in place. Njuya apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured clients that the office is working tirelessly to resume services as soon as possible.

The suspension of civil weddings is the latest blow to couples who had planned to tie the knot this year. With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, many couples have been forced to postpone or cancel their ceremonies. However, some have opted for a 'minimony' – a small, intimate wedding with a limited number of guests and live streaming to loved ones.

One such couple is Godfrey Mutwiri and Grace Nkatha, who defied the odds and got married in a low-key ceremony in Meru County. Their wedding cost a mere Sh40,000 and was a testament to their love and determination.

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, couples are finding creative ways to celebrate their love. Whether it's a small, intimate ceremony or a virtual wedding, one thing is certain – love will prevail.
