As of May 20, 2020, the government has extended the cessation of movement into and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa until June 6, 2020.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the extension, citing the need to contain further spread of the virus.
According to Kagwe, the measures are essential to ensure the two areas are contained, and he hopes that in the next few days, the government can bring some form of control to the disease.
Eastleigh and Old Town were initially locked down on May 6, 2020, for 15 days after being identified as COVID-19 hotspots with a leading number of infections.
