On May 20, 2020, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i declared Monday, May 25, a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr, a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

According to the Public Holidays Act, the Interior CS has the power to declare public holidays, and he exercised this power to declare May 25 a public holiday.

Idd-ul-Fitr is a festival of fast-breaking that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is a time for Muslims to celebrate and gather with friends and family to show gratitude toward God.

The holiday serves as a reminder for Muslims to be grateful for what they have and to share with those who may be less fortunate.

It's worth noting that Idd-ul-Fitr is different from Idd-al-Adha, which is another important Islamic holiday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously ruled out a curfew extension for Muslims during the month of Ramadan, stating that everyone should celebrate at home due to the country's health challenges.
