As of May 20, 2020, only three pregnant women in Kenya have been recorded to have contracted Covid-19 since the disease was first reported in the country in March. According to Health Director General Patrick Amoth, fortunately, no deaths have been reported from these cases.
Pregnant women are among the groups at high risk of contracting Covid-19 due to their low immunity system. Dr Amoth emphasized the importance of adhering to prescribed measures to avoid infection, stating, “No one is immune to #COVID19. Regardless of age, we urge everyone to continue with our laid down measures: wash hands, wear mask, sanitize, keep social & physical distance and stay at home as much as is possible.”
Dr Amoth also clarified that the 50 people who have died as a result of the disease all had underlying illnesses that contributed to their deaths.
