May 20, 2020 - Nairobi, Kenya - The Attorney General's office has suspended marriage registration services in response to a surge in applicants following the partial reopening of the country.

The move, announced on Wednesday, aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Sheria House, the office's location.

According to Mary Njuya, Registrar General at the AG's office, the high number of applicants on Monday contravened the Ministry of Health's guidelines on COVID-19.

The office is developing new guidelines to ensure marriage services can be provided safely and in compliance with health regulations.

"As a result, the office has temporarily halted all marriage services to develop a clear roadmap for reopening in line with the Ministry of Health's guidelines and to ensure safety measures are in place," Njuya stated.
