Former NTV news anchor Larry Madowo has made a significant achievement in his academic and professional career. In 2019, he was admitted to Columbia University's Journalism School in New York, where he pursued his Master's degree.
On May 19, 2020, Madowo took to Twitter to share the exciting news that his 9,000-word piece on Jumia's first year on the NYSE had won the 2020 Philip Greer Award for Financial Writing. He reported that he had spent months researching the topic from Lagos, Berlin, Nairobi, and New York for his Master's thesis.
"I spent months reporting on Jumia's first year on the NYSE from Lagos, Berlin, Nairobi & New York for my @ColumbiaJournMA thesis. My 9,000-word piece just won the 2020 Philip Greer Award for Financial Writing," Madowo tweeted.
He also expressed his gratitude to Bloomberg News Executive Editor Winnie O'Kelley, who is also a professor of business journalism at Columbia, for her guidance in crafting the award-winning thesis. "Only because you were the amazing professor and thesis advisor I needed. Thanks for making it all possible," Madowo tweeted.
