On May 20, 2020, Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court acquitted former Cabinet Minister Amos Kimunya and two others in a case involving the fraudulent disposal of public property worth Sh60 million.
Magistrate Felix Kombo ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove its case against them beyond a reasonable doubt.
Kimunya, who was charged alongside Lilian Njenga and Jughae Wainaina, faced six counts of abuse of office.
The prosecution alleged that in June 2005, Kimunya and Njenga allocated Midlands 25 acres of public land, with Kimunya accused of not protecting public property and failing to disclose his directorship in Midlands.
However, Magistrate Kombo found that no prima facie case had been established against the accused persons, leading to their acquittal.
Kimunya, a former Finance minister and Kipipiri MP, was a key figure in the case, which had been ongoing for six years.
