As the Harambee Stars players and technical bench await their Sh 250,000 bonus from the AFCON 2019 tournament, captain Victor Mugubi Wanyama has fired back at teammate Aboud Omar, who recently blamed him for the delayed payment.

Published on May 20, 2020, the players and technical bench are yet to receive the promised bonus, despite Kenya's win over Tanzania in the tournament held in Egypt.

Aboud Omar, who is currently without a club, claimed in an interview that Wanyama had negotiated the terms of the bonus with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) but did not follow up properly. However, Wanyama has denied these allegations, stating that he discussed everything with the players and passed on their agreed terms to the federation.

"I think what he (Aboud) said about me was utter disrespect and not the truth," Wanyama told Madgoat TV. "I managed to negotiate with FKF and all these were through discussions with the entire playing unit."

Wanyama also emphasized the importance of unity among national team players, stating that it is key to fighting for their rights and progress even as individuals. He also revealed how he personally called FKF president Nick Mwendwa to ensure that Gor Mahia defender Philemon Otieno, who tore a knee ligament on national team duty, was taken care of.
